WRITING AN ARTIST PROPOSAL

- The proposal should include what your idea for the series is, what inspired your series, and what you hope to communicate to your audience.

- How many pieces will be in your series? Describe the medium, size, and an idea of what will be included/depicted in each piece.

REMEMBER

As you create your series, new ideas may be integrated and the series may move in an unexpected direction, THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF OUR WORKING MINDS, however, the initial plan is pivotal in getting a large project, like an artist portfolio series, underway.

GRAMMAR, SPELLING, AND FLUIDITY are of CRUCIAL IMPORTANCE!!!

Think….informative, intelligible, and motivated.

Consider the questions:

What is your work about?

Why did you choose this medium?

How is this body of work an effective communication of your ideas?

Project proposals are important for obtaining

ARTIST GRANTS, RESIDENCIES, or JOBS.

Narratives and Maps

Integrating symbols and subtleties in your work allow you to communicate through your image, elaborate on a narrative, and hide secrets or surprises within your piece.
